Moto GP - Marc Marquez extends his lead over Jorge Lorenzo in Aragon

With just four races left in the 2013 Moto GP season, it is pretty much confirmed that Marc Marquez will be crowned champion in the end. He is currently leading the Riders’ Championship by 39 points and there seems no stopping him at the moment.

Even if the young rider has to retire in any of the upcoming events, he will still have a good chance of securing the title. He will really have to do something silly to spoil the party for his team, Honda, and himself.

The latter of the two riders was ahead and looked to have a very good race pace. However, he got hit from behind by Marquez, resulting in retirement. Luckily for the younger of the two riders, he managed to continue racing, but he had to make some ground to catch up with his title contender Jorge Lorenzo of Yamaha.

That did not seem to be a problem for the 20-year-old, as he easily managed to catch the Yamaha rider and overtook him in his aggressive style, for which he has drawn a lot of criticism. From then onwards, it seemed that no one would be able to come in his way, but Lorenzo gave him a tough time towards the ending moments.

However, Marquez had enough life in his tires, so he stretched the gap to more than one second in order to cement his place at the top. Due to this, Lorenzo had to settle for second place on the grid and his title chances seem to be over now.



The top-two finishers in Aragon did not have any pressure on them from the rest of the riders, as Pedrosa had retired on lap six. This allowed the second Yamaha rider, Valentino Rossi, to finish on the podium once again this season. He seems off-color this year, but has still managed to score some decent points with consistency.

The Italian rider did not find the podium finish in Aragon to be easy, as there was immense pressure on him from some of the other riders like Alvaro Bautista, Stefan Bradl and Cal Crutchlow. All of them were pushing extremely hard to claim the podium, but the experience of Rossi proved to be too much for them in the end.

There was not much action other than that, as things went normally for the rest of the riders. Bradley Smith came home in seventh place ahead of the two Ducati riders, Andrea Dovizioso and Nicky Hayden whereas Andrea Iannone completed the Top-10.

With the end of this race, Marquez is firmly positioned at the top of the points table, but the manufacturer’s battle is still on. There is a very little difference between Honda and Yamaha, so things can be interesting towards the final few events. The former of the two teams is currently in lead with 316 points whereas the latter outfit has got 290 points.

Although Honda seems to have the upper hand at the moment, but a couple of more retirements for any of their riders will allow Yamaha to strike back and take the championship in the end. Moto GP - Is Marc Marquez Being Too Aggressive?

There is no doubt that Marc Marquez is having a great time in his debut Moto GP season. He is currently leading the championship and it seems extremely difficult for his rivals to beat him now, as there are only a handful of races left in the 2013 season. Star rider Valentino Rossi claimed that he had witnessed the crash live and was scared that something bad could happen. On the other hand, the then Honda rider Casey Stoner also criticized the move of the Spaniard and labelled him ‘immature’.

Nevertheless, the 20-year-old made it to Moto GP, which was a dream for him. There is no doubt that he was immensely talented and had the speed like none other, but he needed to realize that racing should be fair. In the recently concluded race at Aragon, Marquez hit his team-mate Pedrosa, which resulted in retirement for the latter of the two riders. Pedrosa did not find that to be professional at all and said that he could also do such things. He went onto say that the senior riders on the grid have been trying to calm the youngsters down, but they simply refuse to learn. He insisted that the sport’s governing body should take some action over this matter and penalize drivers, who cause collisions.

Just like Marquez, Marco Simoncelli was also overly aggressive and was often criticized for his immature overtaking moves. At the end of the day, he lost his life while racing, which clearly shows how dangerous it is for the riders out there.
