The legendaryMotoGP rider Mick Doohan, who has remained a Honda machinery rider throughout his entire Grand Prix career, states that confidence is the key to Marc Marquez successful run in the premier class racing. The all-time great of the MotoGP also said that he believes the young and sensational rider can rule the sport in the coming years. Mick said it’s for sure that Marquez is not scared, as he has the self-belief that is driving him through. Confidence has always been there for top riders, as it is one of the strengths of Valentino Rossi,all the way down to Wayne Rainey and racers before him, said Doohan.
According to Mick, its confidence that enables a rider to get away without crashing that is why some people crash out at a pace over which others stay on. Doohan said that it’s been a long while since people have seen someone like Marquez, who shows great skills on motorcycle without falling off it and that become possible only because of his confidence. These words came from a rider who won 500cc World Championship five times in a row. During this golden period there was a time when Mick also managed to won 10 races in succession from pole position back in 1997.
Now Doohan has seen Marquez become the youngest World Champion during last year and winning six consecutive races from pole position in 2014 season. So he not only acknowledged Marquez’s potential, but also said that the Repsol Honda rider will continue to rewrite the history books. When it was asked from Doohan whether Marc could become the successful rider of all time, the Australian replied that certainly Marquez is young, Rossi also had a good run and there more races than before, but in this sport luck matters a lot.
Doohan added that the 21-year old Spaniard surely has the advantage of being young, talented and mentally strong. Plus he had some excellent races in the past and he is definitely not shy, so as long as he would want to race and keep having fun in it, all records may well be his, said Mick.
