Besides Marc Marquez’s excellent riding, Valentino Rossi believes that Honda has discovered something else with its RC213V machine in this year that has enabled it to increase the gap. The seven time world champion said that though they had improved their bike a little, but they still need to improve it in lots of other areas, Rossi said so because for him Honda was already quite fast during last year, but the gap between Marc’s machine and Yamaha was less at that time. This year they have ‘found something’ in the chassis as well as in the electronics that has increased the gap between their bikes, said Rossi.
Nevertheless, Valentino still believes that they not far, but they need work on some areas. He added that they always push Yamaha hard to make improvements. Also, it seemed to him that they put the rear tyre slightly under more stress as compared to Honda. Therefore, Rossi said that it always get tough for them to compete with Honda in the last phase of the race and also because Marquez rides extremely well.
Rossi’s teammate Jorge Lorenzo was also present on this occasion and he agreed with his partner by saying that his bike is now more stable to ride, more steady in acceleration and more easily maintains a constant pace till the last laps. However, it appears that Honda has something more, particularly in braking said Jorge. He added that they can hit the brake very late and can lean their bike in the corners very early. In contrast, Yamaha pair is unable to do that therefore Lorenzo said that they need to do a lot of work in that area in the future.
In spite of it, Jorge feels that they have some positive points too such as more speed in the corners. Unfortunately, that is not enough to give a tough fight to Honda on all occasions, said Lorenzo. However, the two-time MotoGP world champion believe that at Indianapolis he would have stayed with Marquez till the end if he did not apply the brakes so early. The young rider also said that Rossi over took Dovizioso, they made a contact as a result he lost a few seconds.
Lorenzo said that when he secured the second position they over took him once again, so if he would have maintained the second position probably he could have managed to stick with Marquez till the end because there was very little difference in their lap times. He said that if was not too aggressive at that point in time that is why he had finished a few seconds late than Marc.
At this stage, one cannot predict whether the two Yamaha riders will be able to give Marquez a tough time in Brno after learning from their mistakes. However, one thing is for sure that it’s not going to be easy for them to match with Marc, as the rider has already made a mark by leading all the riders in the opening practice session Czech Republic MotoGP.
Thanks to the private test that Honda conducted last month at Brno, as Marquez made good use of that information. This enabled the young Spaniard to once again cross the finish line before Lorenzo, teammate Dani Pedrosa, Aleix Espargaro and Rossi in the first free practice session at Brno.
