Valentino Rossi finally won his first race of the 2014 season at Misano on Sunday, September 14, as Marc Marquez committed an error and crashed his bike to finish 15th. In spite of the crash, the reigning MotoGP world champion said that he is content with his performance. Marquez crashed his Honda RC213V on lap 10 at Rio corner when he was in hot pursuit of Rossi.
Luckily, Marc remained unhurt and he instantly got up on his feet after the crash and was able to restart his bike with the assistance of some officials. The Honda rider then fought his way up to finish the race by earning a singular point.
Marquez, who got back on the saddle to claim 15th position, said after the race that he was pretty happy how the things have went at Misano despite the crash. According to Marquez it was his first mistake of the season because the other day he did not even thought that he would be able to match with Rossi and Lorenzo.
The Repsol Honda rider also said that Yamahas had bit more speed as compared to them, but still they managed to get quite close to them. Marc added that he thought that there is a chance of fighting with Rossi for the victory, but unfortunately that did not happen because if the mistake he committed. Shedding light on his mistake Marquez said that he was riding over the inner side of the rumble strip and that made him lost his front.
The 21-year old Spaniard said that he was lucky that he managed to re-join the race, continued to show good pace and seized a point that could prove quite vital in the future.
Despite failing to end up among the top ten riders, Marquez still enjoys a massive lead of 74 points in the overall standings. However, the crash at Misano has definitely hurt his efforts to win the second title of his premier class racing career in front of his home crowd at Aragon. That is where the next round of MotoGP will take place.
That’s not all Rossi victory at Misano has also reduced his points difference with Pedrosa (215), as Valentino (214) is now just one point short of him. This means that if Rossi manages to finish the next race before Dani, he will be able to secure the second position in the world championship standings.
